Introduction
Slow Food Waitakere
was officially opened on April 30 2006.
The Waitakere region is unique in New Zealand as it has a history based
on food and wine, from the fishing camps of Te Kawerau a Maki and Ngati
Whatua to the Pakeha (European) pioneer winemakers, from the kumara
farms of the mythical Paorae to the orchards of Oratia.
We have one of the richest native plant biodiversities in our forests,
and an exciting multicultural society.
We are experiencing the eslow lifef every time we take a bush walk or
pop on a surf board, every time we meet for a picnic at the beach or
a barbie in the back garden.
Our convivium is set to celebrate, preserve and improve all that make
the Waitakere region.
We aim to promote
conviviality in Waitakere and an opportunity for chefs, caterers and
producers, home cooks or keen gourmands, and everyone who believes that
since we have to eat to live we may as well do it well, to get together
and share thoughts, projects and tantalizing food experiences.
I hope one day
you will visit us in Waitakere.
Slow
